Oda Dyrnes is a Norwegian composer-performer and creative cellist. She worships a sonic goddess of cello sounds and -noises and presents a post-classical expression that deals with all the sonic possibilities encountered between bow, strings, fingers, and soul. Her work is grounded in spontaneous composing and improvisation, extended instrumental playing and explorative listening experiences. No rules, just imagination.
Situated in Copenhagen, Oda is an active performer on the European improv scene, regularly performing her own music, collaborating with artists such as Jørgen Teller, as a member of Damkapellet and initiative behind Crush String Collective. As a composer she does commissions and composes for her own ensembles.
Oda’s music is highly acclaimed, recently awarded with Carl Nielsen and Anne Marie Carl-Nielsens talent prize and a Danish Music Awards nomination. Her releases Aeriform (Crush String Collective, 2022) and Kyaness (in duo with Greek pianist Zoe Efstathiou, 2021) have been praised among critics worldwide. Oda is currently studying at the Soloist/Advanced Postgraduate Diploma programme at Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen.
